Urban public transport

This kit can reach a considerable size and complexity because of the
high number of vehicles operating in the system, generally buses, and
of the information interchanged with them. Not all vehicles are equipped
in the same way, because of precise technical choices or for
administrative and economic choices.

Urban public transport kit
The typical services available with this system are:
Dressing of the vehicle at the beginning of the shift. All the information
to carry out the shift are sent to the SPM system: timetables, number of
the urban line, messages for the public, etc.
Coordination of the telephony transmissions from the operator of the
vehicle to the central and from the central to the single vehicle or
to selected groups, generally associated to a urban line, or to the whole
fleet of vehicles in service at the moment.
Interface between the system and the driver of the vehicle through
a simplified terminal made up of a functional keyboard and alphanumeric
display. This device enables to communicate from and to the operative
central precodified messages of typical operative situations simply
pressing one or two keys. Typical messages are: impassable road,
mechanical fault, non-successful change of shift, request of an ambulance
for an accident, etc.
Alarm for theft attempt, vandalism, etc. Foreseen is a special treatment
for contingent dangerous situations, that is a special button reachable
by the driver activating a contact in silent listening. That is, the
Operative Central is alerted and can hear what happens on board of the
alarmed vehicle and can value the level of danger and the corrective
actions to be carried out in real time.
Visual and acoustic useful messages, generally the name of the next stop,
or commercial messages for the public. SPM enables to record messages,
predefined or coming from the Transmissive Equipment, diffused through
loudspeakers and through large alpha-numerical displays.
Determining the geographical position of the vehicle through survey
equipments like odometer, GPS satellite receiver, gyroscope.
Acquisition and transmission of the number of passengers using the
public service. Acquisition and transmission of the typical parameters
of functioning of the vehicle like fuel level, motor oil pressure, door
opening status, etc. Acquisition and transmission of the data of the
stamping machine about the tickets. That is the information about the
users' payment of the public service.
Management of the radiofrequency local network made up of the Short
Range Transmitting Equipments (ATCR) for the receipt and transmission
at high speed. This kind of network is generally installed in the deposit
of the vehicles in order to send the data of dressing, beginning of shift,
and the data of tickets, end of shift made up of a great deal of data the
transmission of which through the ATLR would not be suitable with
the type of system examined.
Calculation, prediction and communication to the users of the foreseen
time of arrival of the next public vehicle. This service implies the
existence at the bus stop of an informative panel interacting both with
the vehicle through the ATCR and with the Operative Central through an
ATLR equipment or with a computer network directly cabled with the central.
